Personally I'd like to see him back as backup on reduced wages. I've always thought that he was a bit under-rated. I'm sure Manuel reads WHO, so make it happen, senor.

Gold also opened the door on a return to the club for defender James Collins, whose contract expires in June.
The 34-year-old former Wales defender was told on e-mail that he would not be given a new deal.
However Gold says he also spoke to the centre-back about his departure.
"You have to do that. What the league and the FA demand when you release a player is that you must send an email to the player and a copy to the Premier League and the FA," Gold added.
"You can still bring James back. It's the manager's decision, we could re-employ James tomorrow.
"But I did speak to James on the basis that he might not be coming back, we had a conversation."

Shitty end for him, whether he was spoken to or not before the email.
Should easily find another club though as he could have another season or two in him, but right time for us to move on and maybe give Reece Oxford a chance at CB.
Can imagine he’ll make a decent coach or manager in the future, so maybe he’ll be back one day.

SHAME but probably the right decision
It feels like Reid is just as reliable when it comes to niggles etc so with that in mind I'd have to consider what we do with him albeit several years younger
I'd prefer to stick with Rice and Oggy and move the others on if we can actually sell them

Decision left to the manager, as it should be. I hope he returns one day in a coaching capacity, if that's what he has planned for when he retires from playing.

Is tehre not a way of calling a match "The James Collins Charity Match," where the taxman can be dodged that way?
Say it's not a testimonial, just pure charity. Isn't there a tax break for charity matches?
Normal testimonials raise money for players, who usually choose to give to charity, but surely there is a way around this if Collins picks his cause first, and the club arrange it as a charity fundraiser.

the problem with a testimonial is that you do have to have ten years consecutive service to obtain the tax break from HMRC, added to this the extra cost of hiring the stadium, staff etc etc etc would mean that there would likely be very little, if anything, left for Collins' chosen charity. presuming that he would donate it to charity of course.

It's the right time for him to leave.
The way it was handled was a disgrace.
He deserved a testimonial in my opinion. I would have even bothered to attend the Stratford Bowl for it.

What I don't understand is how we can sing songs about two players playing the West Ham Way and they are both completely different players in practically every way?
I like Collins and he's been a great servant to the club.
If he stays then great.
If he leaves then it's no big deal.
